Botha made his test debut against Australia in 2006 and got mr. cricket Mike Hussey as his first test victim. However he was soon suspended by the icc for the allegations of throwing the ball, before returning to cricket in 2007. Botha is still not permitted to ball his dossera. Paul Harris is preferred ahead of him in the South African test squad.

Botha made his odi debut against India in 2005. He struggled early on but soon made the spinners spot his own. Botha is now set to take over the captaincy from Smith after the 2011 world cup. Botha bowls consistent line and length and ties the runs down. He is also a more than useful lower order batsman.

The current captain of the South African cricket team is an excellent t20 bowler. He bowls economically and takes wickets more often than not. He has a very good yorker which is very effective to contain the batsman.
