Misbah-ul-Haq suspended for slow over-rate. posted under: Pakistan | All news |
Misbah-ul-Haq and the entire Pakistan side were found guilty of a serious over-rate offence during the final ODI against Sri Lanka, resulting in the suspension of the captain from the first test, which starts on Friday.
The team was ruled to be 3 overs short of its target at the end of the ODI when time allowances were taken into consideration. The skipper was handed two suspension points by Chris Broad of the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC match referees and each of the players were slapped with a fine of 40% from their match fee, splitting it into 10% for the first two overs and 20% for the third.
Two suspension points to Misbah-ul-Haq means that he will miss Pakistan’s first test against their hosts Sri Lanka at the Galle stadium, starting this Friday, the 22nd of June, according to articles 7.4.1 and 7.5.3 of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Code of conduct.
According to article 2.5.2 of the Code, putting it plain and simple, an over-rate offence is considered to be “serious” if the bowling side goes above the time limit provided by the match officials, with more than 2 overs remaining in the One-Day and Twenty20 formats of the game, while a test match offence will be considered if the team has more than 5 overs left when time’s up.
The Charge on Haq was laid by all the officials of the match, including on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and the home country umpire Ranmore Martinesz, both from the International Panel of ICC Umpires, as well as third umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge and fourth umpire Nilan de Silva. This serious offence come after almost a year since the men in green were last booked.
Misbah later pleaded guilty to the charges and the penalties were accepted without a formal hearing. |
