Right time to select world T20 team, feels Shahid Afridi. posted under: Pakistan | All news |
Pakistan’s all-rounder Shahid ‘Boom Boom’ Afridi has been quoted saying that this is the right time for the selectors to go ahead and announce the World T20 2012 team representing his nation.
There were a lot of reasons he mentioned about this move to clear everyone’s mind, the most significant of them being that it would allow players to mentally prepare themselves for the challenge and plan ahead.
“I think any more delay will affect our preparations,” he was quoted.
The World T20 which starts in Sri Lanka in September this year, will have a lot of teams eyeing the crown. Pakistan, who were runners-up in the first ever World T20 in 2007 and won it in 2009, will have a boost ahead of other teams if Afridi gets his way.
The flamboyant cricketer also made it clear that he had no issues playing under Misbah-ul-Haq or newly crowned captain Mohammed Hafeez and said that they were supportive and they got along well with each other. However, he also added that Hafeez had a long way to go and a lot to learn as captain.
“Every new captain goes through a learning process. Hafeez also has to go through it and learn. I also was able to give my best as captain after going through a phase. Every captain becomes successful after learning with time,” he was quoted saying.
Defending T20 champs England will have to somehow make up for lost form if they want a slim chance at retaining the crown. The mental stability of the Pakistan team has some kinks and will no doubt improve with more training for all the players. An early selection by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) means that the chosen few will be concentrated on and will have all the more time to get ready for the exciting tournament. |
