PCB wants Wasim Akram as bowling coach. posted under: Pakistan | All news |
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed desire to have former Pakistan test captain and fast-bowling legend Wasim Akram as a bowling coach for young players.
Intikhab Alam, who heads PCB national academy affairs and is also a former Pak test captain, has been quoted saying that Akram would be invited to coach at a camp which will feature the country’s best emerging talent.
“I hope Wasim can spare some time out of his schedule and give some time for the camp because the players can learn from his experience and skills,” he was quoted by a cricket website.
Intikhab said that the camp was being set up primarily to focus on shortlisting the best talent among young players and to give them the golden opportunity of training with some of the best former captains and coaches of Pakistan.
Wasim, the bowling coach for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, who picked up their maiden league title last season, is usually busy with his hectic schedule as a commentator, host and consultant but has time and again said that he would love to work with Pakistani players, provided the board invites him formally.
Wasim Akram has twice held short camps for the board to help concentrate on and train emerging fast bowlers but his differences with the PCB over his role in Pakistan’s cricket affairs has affected their relationship. So it will be interesting to see how this unfolds. |
