BCCI chief N Srinivasan summoned by CBI. posted under: India | All news |
The Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) has summoned the BCCI chairman N Srinivasan for questioning over his alleged connections in the YSR Jagan Mohan Reddy illegal assets case. YSR Jagan was arrested on May 24..
Srinivasan has been asked to make himself available at the CBI office in Hyderabad, next week. Srinivasan, who apart from being the BCCI chief, is also the managing director of India Cements – which owns the Chennai Super Kings IPL franchise. The India Cements spokesperson confirmed receiving the summons on behalf of Srinivasan and said, “We have received a notice in the context of allocation of water towards expansion of capacity of two of our plants in Andhra Pradesh.”
According to reports, Srinivasan has invested in two companies promoted by YSR Jagan – Bharathi Cements and Jagathi Publications. The CBI has alleged that Srinivasan’s India Cements invested in both these companies, after two of India Cements’ plants in Andhra Pradesh received unfair and huge water allocations when Jagan’s father YSR Reddy was the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh.
Srinivasan has not been available for comment on the matter, but the India Cements spokesperson has expressed confidence on the matter getting resolved soon and that Srinivasan will be out of the CBI scanner with a clean chit. He said, “Our senior officials have already met officials of department in the past and have submitted all the required information sought by them. We are confident that the matter will be resolved at the earliest since water allocation to our units was as per industrial policy of AP government.”
Srinivasan is not the only cement industry big-wig to have an alleged involvement with Jagan. The CBI has also issued notices to the Managing Directors of Dalmia Cements (JH Dalmia) and Penna Cements (Pratap Reddy), alleging that they got unfair benefits in return for investing in Jagan’s companies.
Srinivasan seems to be going through a rough patch with lady luck. His team the Chennai Super Kings lost in a closely contested IPL 5 final, his son Ashwin had accused that Srinivasan had tortured him mentally and physically due to differences over Ashwin’s alleged sexual preferences and now this allegation brings him into the limelight for the wrong reason. |
