Rahul Sharma tests positive for drugs, family defends him. posted under: India | All news |
In the second week of May, Indian bowler Rahul Sharma was detained along with 94 others including fellow cricketer Wayne Parnell at a rave party. Blood-test results came in a couple of days back and both Sharma and Parnell tested positive.
The party was busted by the Mumbai Police. Although there have been some doubts and confusions regarding the whole matter, the Juhu police have said that Sharma’s arrest is now inevitable. His family however, believes that he is innocent and that he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Rahul’s Father Pradeep Sharma is a sub-inspector of the Punjab Police and said that he and his family were sure Rahul had not taken any drugs and had full faith in him. He also pointed out that Rahul might be implicated in the process, stating the fact that Rahul and Parnell’s results came out almost two months after the ordeal, whereas everyone else’s were out much earlier.
“Why did this happen?” Pradeep said.
When Rahul returned from Mumbai back then, he had said that he would quit cricket if he tested positive for drugs, showing immense conviction. He even said he didn’t know what a rave party was.
“I had come to Mumbai from Pune for a meeting. In the evening, I was asked by Parnell to accompany him to a birthday party for which he was invited by a friend. I had enough time as my flight for Amritsar was scheduled on Monday morning. We reached there and had water and were standing at a corner when after 15-20 minutes, police arrived,” he had said.
Pradeep has stood by his son throughout the scenario and supports him continuously. “In any case, we will go by BCCI's decision,” he was quoted. |
