Tendulkar's records will be broken, pridicts Kapil Dev. posted under: India | All news |
India’s former captain Kapil Dev spoke to media this past Sunday, praising India’s Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar for his disciplined life and dedication to the game, but added that the maestro’s records will be broken one day.
Kapil Dev, who led India to a World Cup back in 1983, spoke about his experience with players of a similar caliber to that of the man with a hundred hundreds and was quoted saying:
“When we were playing, we used to think that whether the future will see any greater batsman than Sunil Gavaskar. But we were wrong. There have been greater players than Gavaskar, and this is because the game of cricket is bigger than any player.
“Sachin has played brilliantly throughout the career and has accumulated huge records but his records will also be broken one day because this is cricket.”
Kapil, who was in Kolkata this past Sunday to address a program of ‘Aakash Institute’, spoke about dedication, discipline and self-confidence and how they were the three key factors which determine how successful a person can get.
“During the end of my cricket career there was a lot of hype regarding two young talents: one was Sachin Tendulkar and the other one was Vinod Kambli. Both of them were very talented. But now look where Sachin has reached. Kambli couldn't make it big because of his lack of discipline,” he added.
“Sometimes, you have the talent but if you don't understand yourself, you can't become Sachin Tendulkar. You have to have a role model. But that is not the end as you have to go beyond your role models,” he pointed out, saying that parents today need to play a big role in all of this and have to support their kids in all endeavors.
“The parents play an important role. It's the partnership with your kids, the understanding with them that's very important. Today my daughter is my best friend. She is much wiser than me in terms of technology. So I also respect her,” he said.
