Ishant Sharma rules himself out of Sri Lanka series. posted under: India | All news |
Ishant Sharma has ruled himself out from the Sri Lanka series that is scheduled to take place in July. The 23 year old is yet to fully recover from an ankle injury and feels he won’t be fit in time for the series.
According to the PTI, Ishant said, “I’m feeling strong and good again and even started to bowl four-over spells. However, it will be difficult to get fully fit in time for next month’s tour to Sri Lanka.” Ishant underwent surgery in March and that kept him out of the IPL as well. The lanky paceman has started training and a bit of bowling but is almost certain to miss the plane to Sri Lanka as it may take up to two-three months before Ishant can bowl actively at the highest level again.
Ishant had been spending time at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore and upon his return said, “Intensity of bowling and fitness has to increase gradually and I would also need some match practice to check myself. I think I will take two or three months more to regain match fitness.”
Ishant had an extra growth in his right foot bone. This was causing him pain and lot of discomfort. He underwent correctional surgery in London and hasn’t donned cricket gear since then. The surgery was paramount as Ishant hopes to play for a long time. In order to be fighting fit for at least the England series in October, Ishant will be going back to the NCA to check on the status of his rehab and fitness.
Ishant was initially quick, but erratic, but he appeared to have understood his own strengths and weaknesses and adapted pretty well. About a year back, he affected a record 23 dismissals in three test matches in the West Indies.
After that though, Ishant suffered from utter lack of form and performed ordinarily when India toured England and Australia last year. But, with 133 wickets in 45 tests, it goes without saying that with focus and application of his natural height, this Delhi boy has the potential to someday spearhead the Indian attack. |
